Signal Processing in Geohazard Detection

Geohazard is a geological state that may lead to widespread damage or risk. Due to its frequent and disastrous nature, it has becomes very important to predict these geological hazards in order to reduce damages and avoid human losses. Signal (and image) processing methods have been used to detect and predict various geohazards such as landslides, earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, hurricanes and volcanoes. In this special session, we invite those applying signal processing, image processing, pattern recognition and computer vision techniques in the detection and prediction of various geohazards to submit and present their work at the conference.


Practices in Signal Processing Education

Signal processing is a subject that many students find difficult to grasp when first introduced. Therefore, with the availability of multi-media facilities in campuses, practitioners have begun to exploit these for better communication and demonstration to students and other learners. In this special session, we invite teachers and trainers to share their creative and innovative practices in teaching signal processing.


Neuro-(Brain) Signal Processing

During the last decade, brain computer interface (BCI) research has developed into a major research field establishing methodological frameworks, guidelines and a core community of established researchers. These explorations followed a number of interesting installations, suggesting novel ways of human-computer as well as human-human interaction. The special session on Neuro (Brain) Signal Processing will explore the advantages and limitations of using neuro-physiological signals as a modality for the automatic recognition of affective and cognitive states for applications in health, 3D entertainment and transport safety. 



Intelligent Image Processing

Organized byIbrahima Faye (Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS) and Iqbal Saripan (Universiti Putra Malaysia) 

Intelligent medical imaging  covers all aspects of measuring and quantifying structural and functional parameters from biomedical images. Work based on any imaging technology, including multidimensional and multimodality, are invited. Techniques, methods, and systems for evaluation and relationships and interrelationships of images for medical practices are of particular interest. Work in emerging areas such as PET, fusion and multi-modality medical imaging is also of specific interest. 



Statistical Signal Processing and its Applications

Organized by:Vijanth S Asirvadam (Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS) and Norliza Mohd Noor (Universiti Teknologi Malaysia) 

This special session will look intro theoretical aspect of signal processing especially on stability and convergence analysis, statistical learning algorithms, kernel methods, graphical models, dimensionality reduction and manifold learning, Gaussian processes statistical physics of learning. Application of statistical signal processing on 1D chain, 2D field or 3D space are also welcome to submit and present in this conference.



Signal and Image processing and its Biometric Applications

This special session will focus (but limited) on new acquisition techniques such as 3D-face reconstruction, multi-spectral fingerprint images and recent fast and robust face recognition as s versatile form of biometrics. Implementation of mobile biometrics and other areas in which include biometrics based on voice, fingerprint, iris, handwriting, gait and other modalities, as well as multi-modal biometrics and new biometrics based on novel sensing technologies are welcome for submission in this special issue.
